Obituary for S. Maureen McCannSister Maureen McCann, RSM, age 85, a member of the Sisters of Mercy, Mid-Atlantic community died April 11, 2020 at McAuley Convent at Merion, Pennsylvania. A Sister of Mercy for 65 years, she spent most of her ministerial years in education. Sister taught at the elementary level in urban and rural schools in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Virginia. Sister Maureen continued her commitment to education as a professor at Gwynedd Mercy University and Temple University, teaching and supervising future teachers. She acted as director and finance manager of allied health for Gwynedd Mercy University. Sister added to her list of accomplishments grant writing to provide funding assistance for minority and disadvantaged students in allied health careers. Despite her busy teaching schedule, Sister Maureen found time to volunteer as a teacher of adult education/threshold Program at Graterford Prison and Holmesburg Prison.Sister was a larger than life person. She always met everyone with a smile, reached out lovingly and had compassionate concern for her sisters at McAuley Convent. Being with and sharing her family gave her great joy. Maureen loved to have a good time, always ready to sing Irish songs or any songs that she felt would bring joy to the group.Sister Maureen’s funeral arrangements will be private. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date.
