Nicholas A. Ezzi passed away on April 22, 2017. He was 84. How do you capture in a few paragraphs the essence of a man who lived to support his family and wanted nothing in return? You can’t. Nick wouldn’t want the attention. And since he never allowed us to make a fuss over him, we choose to do so now, as he rests in heaven. Nick’s priority was always his family. After graduating from St. Thomas More Catholic Boys High School in West Philadelphia, he immediately found work to help his parents. He then married MaryAnne DeMasi, who became his wife of 60 years. They had four children, Charles, Maria (Hess), Susan (Ezzi-Bloxton) and Joseph. Nick simultaneously worked several jobs. For decades, he was a shop steward and machinist for what was then Boeing-Vertol while running a catering business with his dad. He’d get home at midnight from Boeing then wake before dawn to stock the food truck — long before food trucks were trendy. At the same time, Nick had a photography business, shooting weddings and parties on weekends and managing a regular Saturday-night gig as the official photographer at the famed Palumbo’s Restaurant in South Philadelphia. He met myriad celebrities there, all of whom came to know Nick as the hard-working, generous, selfless family man we now celebrate. Had Nick showed off his great singing voice, he may have been discovered — but again, he never sought the limelight. When Nick wasn’t working, he was cooking, usually with the finest ingredients from Philly’s Italian Market. When the family moved to Havertown, Nick was often seen delivering Italian bread to neighbors. Nick will be missed dearly by his grandchildren: David (Brennan), Nicholas and David (Bloxton), Eric (Ezzi), J.C. (Huggins), and Benjamin (Hess). Close family friends Jeanne Ezzi, Margaret McBride, Amy Hrkach, Barbara and Melissa Brennan, Tom Trignani, as well as the Black Knights, the Kershaw Street gang, and many others will remember him fondly. Nick was predeceased by his parents, his two sons, and his brother, Charles Ezzi Jr. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nick’s name to Main Line Health Homecare & Hospice. Our family is indebted to them for their support. Relatives & friends are invited to his viewing Wed April 26 at 11-1:15 p.m., at D’Anjolell Memorial Homes & Crematory, 2811 West Chester Pike, Broomall, Pennsylvania followed by his Memorial Service in the Main Chapel at 1:30. Interment at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield will immediately follow.
