Lane1930~2021Nancy was born in Philadelphia on August 5, 1930. She was the youngest of five siblings of Fred and Marie Gogel. As the youngest sibling she looked up to her brothers John and Fred and sisters Marie and Alma. On April 26, 1952 she married John (Jack) Lane and together they raised their family in the Philadelphia suburbs. Nancy had four daughters, Carol, Patty, Nancy and Joann, and one son Jack. Nancy devoted her life to her family always pitting their needs ahead of her own. Nancy instilled in her children all the basic values particularly, love of family, respect for others, laughter and fun. While Nancy was devoted to family, she also developed close and lasting friendships that brought her great joy and happiness, and she gave the same in return. Nancy’s children will never forget their youthful last days of school, piled into the Country Squire, still in uniforms, off to Ocean City. They went, perhaps slightly in excess of the speed limit. And in Ocean City they remained, barefoot all summer until the station wagon returned them to Broomall the day before school. Summers at the shore left lasting impressions on everyone involved, summer friends, visiting relatives, spouses to be, and all are thankful for those fabulous memories. Nancy was active in all her children’s and grandchildren’s schooling, she valued education and wanted everyone to know it, she got involved, stayed on top of homework, and even volunteered at school events, that occasionally went a bit sideways, she valued laughter. Her love of beach and ocean took the family out to sea on many a cruise, she put tremendous effort into her crew behaving and looking the part. No matter what the setting she exuded, grace, kindness and an infectious good nature, not an easy task while getting five little sunburned kids dressed for dinner. The demands of family evolved over time and later in life Sint Maarten became a focal point for Nancy and Jack to spend time away from the cold winter months. There they made new friends and always returned with great stories. Eventually they left Broomall for Ft. Myers Beach Florida, where visits from family were welcomed with opened arms. Eventually, Nancy left Ocean City to be with her family in Avalon. She enjoyed going out to dinner with friends and family and it was always her treat! Nancy was once asked how she would like to be remembered. In her own humble, self-deprecating way she responded, “why would I be remembered?” After a long pause she continued, “I hope my family and friends know, I am only the person I am because of their love and support. I am a lucky woman.” Anyone privileged enough to have shared a portion of Nancy’s ninety-year celebration of living, is a lucky person, thank you, rest in peace.Survived by her son John P. Lane, Jr. Esq. (Lori), her daughters Carol Lawlor (John), Patricia Lane, Nancy Rich (John), and Joann Stephens (John), her 12 Grandchildren are Katharine Reilly (Tom), Gabrielle Lawlor, Jacqueline Lawlor, Kelly Cecil (Peter), John Stephens (Jennifer), James Stephens (Rachel), Michael Stephens (Mary), Erin Oschell (Greg), Kate McLoughlin, Leanne Coyle (Carson), John Lane, III (Brianna), Matthew Lane and 11 Great Grandchildren, Caroline & Alexis Reilly, Hank & Gus Cecil, John, Harriet & William Stephens, Jacquelyn Stephens, Michael Stephens, Walter & Josephine Oschell.A private family burial is planned for August 5, 2021 at Calvary Cemetery Conshohocken, PA.In lieu of flowers contributions in Nancy’s memory may be made to CRISTO REY Philadelphia High School.
