Born in Birmingham, Michigan, she graduated with Honors from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. A devoted mother, wife and friend, she married her high-school sweetheart Richard “Dick” Groves their senior year at University of Michigan; they were married for 65 years! Mary Ann enjoyed playing golf with friends at Aronimink Golf Club and John’s Island Club in Vero Beach, FL, as well as tennis at Merion Cricket Club for many years. A strong advocate for her children, she was actively involved with PTA and the local schools for many years. And whether at home or in the car, the family Border Collie “Bucky” was her constant companion during his life. How she loved that dear dog, and he her!Mary Ann volunteered for years at the Woman’s Exchange in Wayne and The Agnes Irwin Thrift Shop. She loved to travel with her husband, Dick, and their friends. She played the “golden oldies” on the piano, loved listening to opera and classical music and enjoyed attending The Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra concerts. Among other musical favorites were Nat King Cole, and Michael Crawford; she loved the music from Phantom of the Opera. Hobbies included sewing, gardening, and needlepoint. Another favorite activity was ice skating which she was quite accomplished at; she skated as long as she could throughout her life, and taught her children as well. She is survived by a son, Richard H. “Rick” Groves; daughter, Virginia “Ginny” Groves Nambiar, and seven grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Groves and her son, Charles P. “Chuck” Groves, who died in 2001.
