Bob (born Martin Robert) Markowitz of Newtown Square, PA (New Rochelle, and Armonk, NY), age 79, passed peacefully in his sleep on August 12, 2023.
Bob was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, loved his family and friends, and was the kind of person who immediately made you feel comfortable when you met him. A proud US Navy veteran who served on the USS Vulcan during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, he was in the automotive industry most of his life. He enjoyed fishing on the Cobbosseecontee Stream in Maine, swimming, Rock-n-Roll, Words With Friends, cars, motorcycles, and listening to live music with his friends at local PA coffeehouse, Burlap and Bean. He loved telling stories and jokes (some good and some bad), and a cold Appletini. Bob was known as a storyteller, putting a smile on anyone’s face who was fortunate to hear one of his tales.
Some fun facts that people may not know, Bob was good at sewing; he learned this from his father who was a furrier. He also built, owned, and operated the Gardiner / Richmond KOA Campground in Richmond, Maine in the 1970’s. Also, he raced enduro motorcycles through his youth.
Bob is predeceased by his parents, Esther and Emanuel Markowitz, his brothers, William “Billy” and Owen, and his brother-in-law, James. Survived by his wife of 30 years, Phyllis Ann Markowitz (nee Goldman), his children, Benjamin Robert Markowitz “Sonny Boy” (wife, Kristi), Lisa Grand Roberts “his perfect daughter” (husband, Adam) and their mother, Linda Wishnick Markowitz. Also, his six grandchildren, Lula, Ethan, Jack, Juni, Sam, and Ben, along with his sister, Susan Falciglia, and his nieces Alica and Jaclyn as well as his best friends of 55 years, George Halter Sr. and his wife, Teresa.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Graveside Service Friday, September 22nd, 2:30 PM at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd, Newtown, PA 18940.
