Being his only daughter, of course I grew up very close to my father.
We had a much different relationship than someone with maybe multiple children would. He loved me more than anyone else and I am convinced at this point I'll never feel love on the same amount he ever did. Every second I spent with my dad was worth all the time in the world, and I would absolutely completely do anything just to go back one day and spend the day with him, from the car rides home from school, to relaxing in his house and messing around with him and pajamas (cat) to him cooking up sausage gravy, or steak, (he had the BEST steak in the world.) or anything else he would make because I loved all of his food, to going out to eat and walking around at John Heinz with him, talking about life and how everything was going between both of us. My dad knew me better than anyone else. He could always tell something was wrong, or he would always have something interesting to talk about. Whether it was the next solar event, or just some random life story about whatever. I miss our deep talks on the way home from an event or out to eat, or when I'd name artists of songs off the rock station radio on the way home and he would be so proud of me. I miss him singing that strange song about how he wanted a Mercedes Benz. His obsession with Star Wars is something that carried on over to me after his death. I wish I could talk to him about it, I can't even imagine what funny or strange conversations we would have about the movies, or the various upcoming shows.
There's so much I'd love to tell you, dad. From my encounters this year at LF, meeting amazing new people or ranting about my teachers on car rides home, or talking to you about my HH fountain jump and how excited I was, or hearing you calm me down after a panic attack one last time, a therapy I'll never feel again. Our last hug was one that was morbidly one-sided, but all I wish to feel is another hug from you. I miss you. Happy 56th birthday.

I worked with Chris in CLT and in PHL. We just clicked as friends. He had that effect on everyone he met. When I transferred back to CLT he always made the effort to join myself and several of his Philly brothers who were now in CLT for beer festivals. Great times. One of the best was at the wedding of Rich Ayers's daughter, Shaina. I'll always be reminded of what a fun, loyal friend he was. Chris was an original and will be missed by all of us.

Worked with Chris in Roanoke and Charlotte and everybody from Roanoke maintenance was family. I feel like I lost a part of my family, I'm 56 and started when I was 19 also. We just connected but that was easy to do with Chris. Prayers to his family and friends, you all are truly blessed to have known him.

Chris and I worked together on and off from the mid 90s to 2008. We worked almost every night together during my time in PHL. That was close to 6 years. He was like a brother to me. He always made work seem like a great time no matter what. My situation there was than ideal, but Chris fixed that daily for me. He was truly one of the best Aircraft Mechanics I've ever known and an even better friend. I miss you Bud....

Even though our paths crossed very little once the Roanoke maint. base closed Chris was that guy who I could see and pick up right where we left off. His energy and wit always amazed me and I thank him for his friendship. As I miss him I know of a dear friend of his that is up there enjoying his presence and "picking up right were they left off also" My thoughts and prayers to your family.

I did not know Chris for very long, which is my loss. I worked with him at American since the merger until he retired. I enjoyed his company every day. We made each other laugh.
I made him a Piedmont 727 wall hanging for his last day of work and I think I enjoyed the joy beaming from his smile more than him recieving the gift. God has truely welcomed this man into his kingdom. May God bless his family!

We first met Chris when he and my sister Stephanie starting dating in 2003. His easy demeanor and friendliness peppered in with his southern charm made it easy to get to know him. Here we were in South Philly in a predominately Italian-American neighborhood and Chris Mitchell fit right in referring to himself as a south phillbilly. Not only did he fit in but he made an impression on everyone he met, people just liked him, the guys in the neighborhood liked him and loved his southern sayings. Such as swollen as a blood tick on a three day suck or lord willing the creeks don't rise and my personal favorite even a blind hog finds an acre every now and again. Chris was an incredibly special guy and left behind many people who will miss him more than words could ever express. His beautiful daughter Ava, his loving companion Kim and parents Barbara and Barry, and brother Michael, our thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time.
