John DiLello
12/4/1951 – 9/23/2023
With profound sorrow we announce the passing of John DiLello – beloved husband, father, cousin, mentor and friend. John left us on September 23, 2023, surrounded by his cherished family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa, his devoted son, Louis, his dear cousin Carmen and her husband Joe, and his cousin George. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Concetta and Gaetano, and his sister MaryLou.
Born on December 4, 1951, John was a lifelong resident of the Philadelphia area. He studied painting and sculpture at the Philadelphia College of Art and Temple University. His academic journey led him to a fulfilling career as an art teacher, technologist, school principal, and administrator in the School District of Philadelphia. His enthusiasm for the visual arts was fueled by the emerging possibilities offered by digital media and technology.
John was a deep thinker, an amazing father, and an artist and musician of extraordinary talent. His passion for jazz was unparalleled; he played the alto saxophone with a flair that captivated audiences and fellow musicians.
John’s sense of humor was infectious. He made you laugh until you cried, and could make you think deeply about life’s complexities. His conversations were a blend of wit, wisdom and a quest for understanding, and they made every interaction memorable.
John DiLello was not just a man of words and talent; he was a man of action who sacrificed for the well-being of others. His compassion knew no bounds, extending beyond his immediate circle to anyone in need. John’s generosity was a lifeline for many. It is impossible to measure the depth and impact of his kindness.
John’s final days were a testament to the love and respect he earned over the years. He passed away with grace and dignity, surrounded by those who meant the world to him. His absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but his spirit lives on in the laughter, the music, and the conversations he shared.
As we mourn his loss, we find comfort in the wealth of beautiful memories he left behind. John, may you hit the high notes in heaven just as you did on Earth.
Rest in peace, John DiLello. You will be deeply missed but your legacy endures.
