John J. Shockley

1948-2015John J. Shockley “Jack” of Aston passed away on July 7, 2015. Jack was born in Chester, PA and graduated from Chester High School in 1967. After High School he was drafted and served in the Army on the front lines during the Vietnam war 69′-70′. He held the role of Sargent as part of the First Calvary division. Upon returning home, he worked as a guard at Delaware County Prison before finding his niche in Apartment Maintenance. He worked as Supervisor of Maintenance at Willowbrook Apartments in Boothwyn for almost 30 years. This allowed him to fulfill his gregarious nature to talk to everyone. Jack was an avid hunter and comedian. Always quick with a joke or story that left your jaw hanging or your belly aching. ‘Jack-isms’ like “Yo Man,” “Drive On,” and “Golden,” we’re always at the ready, and made conversations with him unique. He loved his yellow Corvette! On nice days he was sure to clean it up and get on the road! He also loved to sing and could often be heard as ‘Elvis’ at a local karaoke bar, namely the Thirsty Bulldog and Claymont Moose where he was a member. He was also a member of the VFW, Post 5447 in Claymont, DE, and The American Legion, Post 951, in Ogden, PA.His big heart always led him to help others. He was That Guy, who always had your back. Jack always showed a love for animals, having cats and a dog, and feeding the Aston deer who were herd-locked in the tank farms. He enjoyed horseback riding, and playing group sports like softball, in his younger years. Jack’s go to beverage was always a cold Michelob Ultra light beer and he enjoyed his sweets. But most of all, he loved his family and friends. Son of the late James O.
