The Honorable John J. O’Grady Jr., a retired Common Pleas Court Judge of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2023 in North Wales, Pa. at the age of 90. Judge O’Grady was the loving son of Catherine and John J. Sr. He was born and raised in his beloved Overbrook section of Philadelphia. He graduated from St. Thomas Moore High School, Villanova University, and Widener University Law School (JD). He dedicated much of his life to the service of his community as a Republican Ward Leader in Overbrook. He was also an avid long-distance runner and swimmer. He is survived by his loving sisters Susann O’Connor (James), Eileen De Vico (Robert), and Kathleen John (Paul), many nieces and nephews, and dear friends Anne and Shawn Brown. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the wonderful life he lived and the countless ways he made our world a better place.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Notre Dame De Lourdes Catholic Church, located at 990 Fairview Road, Swarthmore, PA. 19081 Visitation will begin at 9:30 am, followed by Mass at 10:30 am. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, 242 S. 20th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103 or Smile Train for Children. Arrangements are made by D’Anjolell funeral home.
