John “Dal” Byers, age 82, of Drexel Hill, passed away on March 6, 2023, at Lankenau Hospital.

Born in Philadelphia to the late Dwight and Mary (née Landes) Byers, Dal worked for SEPTA as a Chief Instructor for many years. He enjoyed fishing from his boat on the Chesapeake Bay, bowling, golfing, and watching all sports, especially horse racing and the Phillies. He was an avid tomato plant gardener and a neighborhood Mr. Fix-It. Dal was always adding to and working on a list of projects or taking pictures in his scenic backyard.

Dal is also pre-deceased by his daughter, the late Paula Annette Byers, and his sister, the late Gail McNeil. Dal is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara Jean (nee Pellak), his children: Dallett Byers, Barbara (Stephen) Podrost, and Darleen (Matthew) Loyd, his brother: Dwight W. Byers, Jr., and five (5) grandchildren: Crystal, Eric, Julian, Eloise, and George.

Relatives and friends may attend a viewing Friday, March 10, 2023 at Bethany Church 5 N. Concord Ave., Havertown, PA from 9 AM to 10:15 AM. Funeral service to follow at 10:30 AM and then interment at Valley Forge Memorial Gardens in King of Prussia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dal’s name to Special Olympics of Delaware County would be appreciated.

Not only did we converse before and after church. Del was my tomato man. During covid I had a hard time getting plants and when Del heard this the gave me as many plants as I wanted to plant in my garden.
