John A. Lepore

LEPORE John A., Ph.D., age 78 of Springfield, loving husband, dad, pop-pop and great grandfather passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 14, 2014. John was born to Louise and Anthony Lepore on February 19th, 1935 and raised in South Philadelphia. He earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Drexel University and a Master’s and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. After working in a supervisory capacity for General Electric, John discovered his true calling in life was as an educator. He pursued a career in academia at the University of Pennsylvania, becoming a tenured professor and ultimately Chairman of the Civil Engineering Department. John took great pride and found fulfillment in teaching. He was a dedicated and passionate professor for more than 40 years, holding his students to rigorous academic standards while being a compassionate counselor and mentor. In 1958, John married Patricia Luning in South Philadelphia where they started their family. They moved to Springfield ten years later, where their family continued to grow. John’s greatest pride was his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he spoiled with gifts, attention and love. His greatest legacy is the profound love and admiration of his family, especially his grandchildren who adored their beloved pop-pop. Survived by his wife of 54 years Patricia A. (nee Luning), his children William J. Muldoon “Bill”, Thomas J. Muldoon (Deborah), Jacqueline L. Navin (D. Michael) and John A. Lepore, Jr. (Eileen F.), his 12 grandchildren, his 4 great grandchildren, his brother Anthony D. “Don” Lepore (Barbara) and his sister Giovanna Eisenstein. Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation Wed. 7-9 P.M. and Thurs. 9-9:45 A.M. at the D’ANJOLELL MEMORIAL HOME OF BROOMALL, 2811 West Chester Pike Broomall, PA 19008. Funeral Mass 10:30 A.M. St. Dorothy Church. Inurnment Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
