Hugh McLennan of Exton, PA
Hugh McLennan passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at the Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester. He was born in Evanston, IL and raised in Charlottesville, VA. He was the son of the late Hugh McLennan and Katherine Howell McLennan. He settled in Chester County in 1965.
Hugh graduated from Woodberry Forest School in Virginia and Williams College in Williamstown, MA, where he participated in the ROTC program. Upon graduation, Hugh entered the U.S Air Force as a second lieutenant, where he received training to become a tactical fighter pilot flying F100’s and F101’s. He was stationed in the Philippines for a number of years. During that time he earned the distinction of flying with the Thunder Tigers, the Southeast Asia division of the USAF Thunder Birds. By the time of his discharge in1963, Hugh had attained the rank of Captain.
Upon returning to the U.S., Hugh earned an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He worked for several years for DuPont in the Textile Fibers Division. In 1974 he founded West Chester Cycle Center, where he sold Kawasaki, Suzuki and Triumph motorcycles. He later founded and managed Hugh McLennan, Inc. a commercial property maintenance company.
Hugh enjoyed volunteering at Home of the Sparrow. He also volunteered for Good Works with a group from St. Peter’s Church in the Great Valley. He was most proud of his participation with City Team Ministries in Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Patricia (nee Metz), two sons, Hugh McLennan III and John Scott McLennan, both of Coatesville, and two daughters , Heather Kozikowski (Richard) of Norristown and Bonnie McLennan of Coatesville, as well as two stepsons, Michael Kocher of Mays Landing, NJ and Robert Kocher (Annmarie) of Chester Springs, four granddaughters, Sarah Ungeheuer, Linda McLennan, Jennifer McLennan and Mallory Kocher and one great-granddaughter, Lili McLennan. He was predeceased by his sister Kathryn Smith.
Relatives and Friends are invited to Hugh’s Memorial Service Friday, December 19, 2014 at St. Peter’s Church in the Great Valley, 2475 Saint Peter’s Road, Malvern, PA 19355. Visitation will take place from 9:30 AM to 11:15 AM, followed by the service at 11:30 AM. Please note construction on roads leading to St. Peter’s and follow detour onto Yellow Springs Road, to Church Road to St. Peter’s Road.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Hugh’s memory to Home of the Sparrow, 969 East Swedesford Road, Exton, PA 19341.
Arrangements are being handled by D’Anjolell Memorial Home of Malvern/Frazer.
