Doris M. Hill, 86, of Reading, a longtime resident of Lancaster and Colwyn, Delaware County, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 11, 2022, surrounded by loving family and friends. Her husband of 67 years, Franklin R. Hill, joined her in heaven 16 days later, on Saturday, August 27.
Mrs. Hill was born in South Philadelphia, daughter of the late Josephine (neé McKeown) and Samuel Ballingall, Sr. She graduated from South Philadelphia High School for Girls in 1954 and married her husband Franklin in 1955.

She was a den mother in the Cub Scouts and a parent volunteer for the Colwyn Comets and the Colwyn Swim Team for many years. A popular fixture in the neighborhood, she was known as a “second mom” to many of the kids on Second Street and Tribet Place.
Along with her husband, she was active in the Improved Order of Red Men and its sister organization, the Degree of Pocahontas, where she served as PA State President in 2017.
Mrs. Hill is survived by her sons Ronald, of Chester; Douglas (Kim), of Palm Coast, FL; Daniel (Jeanne), of Hahira, GA; and Scott (Mary), of Pottstown; eight grandchildren: Douglas Hill II, Jessica Hill, Andrew Hill, Jennifer Stewart, Daniel Hill II, Emily Hill, Shelby Russell, and Kyle Hill; 13 great-grandchildren: Matthew, Nicholas, River, Nova, Morgan, Liam, Aubrey, Kendall, Jamison, Maclin, Harley Claire, Annie, and Maddox; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Samuel Ballingall, Jr. and sister Anna Skiano.
A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of both Franklin and Doris Hill on Saturday, September 24, at D’Anjolell-Barone Memorial Home, 908 S. Providence Road, Wallingford PA. Visitation from 9:00-11:00 am, followed by the service in the Main Chapel. Visitation will also take place on Friday, September 23 from 6:00-8:00 pm.
