Anne M. Makim (nee Winkler), of Glen Mills, PA, formerly of Springfield, PA, passed away peacefully at home on March 11th after a difficult 12 month illness. As with everything in her life, she met this challenge with quiet strength and grace.
Born on December 17, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA, Anne was the daughter of Aloysius and Kathryn Winkler.
Anne graduated from Notre Dame of Moylan in 1961 and attended Widener University.
She worked for The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania as an X-Ray technician and moved on to a long career with Devon Family Practice where she supervised the lab.
As further evidence of her commitment to others, she also volunteered her time with Mainline Hospice.
Above all things, Anne relished the time she spent with her family and her wide circle of friends. For years, she could often be spotted on the sidelines or in the stands at her grandchildren’s sporting events, always trying to be there to show her support. She enjoyed reading and travelling. She loved getting away to Florida and Ocean City, NJ for fun and relaxation. Although “relaxation” for Anne seemed to always involve serving as hostess to as many people as possible. She delighted in conversation over many a cocktail hour and dinner.
Anne is survived by her husband of 42 years, Robert “Bob” Makim; her daughter Jennifer Cotellese and her husband, Chris, and their children, Alyssa and Madison; her son Scott Feustel and his wife, Eileen, and their children, Thomas and Andrew; her step daughter Krista Newmiller and her children, Kody, Nicholas, Noah, Samantha, and Jon; her sister Claire Piason and her husband, Richard; her sister Lynn Sheppard; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who all brought her so much joy throughout her life.
She was predeceased by her brothers Thomas and Fred.
Her kindness, warmth, patience, and gentle spirit leave an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew her. She was loved immeasurably and will be missed immensely.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her doctors, nurses, aides, friends, and neighbors for the care and comfort they afforded Anne and family over the past year.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing and Funeral Mass on Friday, March 17th at St. Thomas The Apostle Church, 430 Valleybrook Road, Glen Mills, PA 19342. Viewing will be from 9:30am – 10:45am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00am. Interment will take place at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that consideration be given to making a contribution in Anne’s memory to Mainline Hospice via https://www.mainlinehealth.org/hospice.
