He was an executive vice president at Smith-Barney until his retirement in 1994.Al is survived by his devoted wife and best friend of 63 years, Margaret “Peg” Dever, (nee Mullen). Also survived by five loving children: Dr. Alex I Dever III (Gloria) of Hagerstown, Md. Timothy Dever (Jeanne) of West Chester Pa. Kathleen Ryan (Michael), of Media Pa.Patrick Dever (Alicia) of West Chester Pa. and Margaret Hussey (Michael) of Media.AI was “Pop” to 13 beloved grandchildren. He was brother to Joseph Dever (Fran) of Media Pa and predeceased by his sister Rita Ignas (Paul) of Phila.Al was a proud graduate of St Joseph’s Prep and St. Joseph’s University.As a child Al attended St. Cyril’s grade school in East lLansdowne Pa. He raised his family in Media, PA. During these child-rearing years he coached his 5children, 3 nephews, and dozens of other youths, in basketball at Nativity BVM school. Many of his players, now adults, have fond memories of Al’s coaching skills as well as his kindness and leadership.Al was an avid sports fan . He was also an avid fisherman with his life long friend, Joe O’Brien. During his 29 years in retirement, he and Peg enjoyed summers in Sea Isle City, N.J. and winters in Long Boat Key Fl.Relatives & Friends are invited to his Visitation on Friday Morning August 27th, from 9:30 to 11:45 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, at noon, at St. Mary Magdalen Church 2400 N. Providence Rd., Media 19063. Interment will be private..Contributions may be made in Al’s memory to the Class of 1954 Scholarship Fund at St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, 1733 W. Girard Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19130 or www.sjprep.org
