ADA IRENE DODSON HOLMES was born August 16, 1930 in Malvern, Pennsylvania to the late George E. and Margaret Valentine Dodson. She was raised in the Malvern area and was educated in the East Whiteland Consolidated School, Easttown School and the Lancaster Mennonite School, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. As a youth, she joined St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Malvern. Ada was married to the late George O. Holmes, II until his death, in 2005, for 43 years. From this union three children were born, George, Mary and Cynthia. Ada’s passion was gardening, home cooking, canning and preserving jelly. Her favorite pastime was going with her late husband on his security runs to the movie theaters and on their Monday morning rides to New Holland Sales in Lancaster, Pennsylvania followed by a late lunch at Shady Maple in Morgantown, Pennsylvania. Ada peacefully departed this life on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at home. She leaves to cherish her memory a son, George O. Holmes, III., of Malvern; two daughters, Mary E. (Holmes) Norman of Wallingford and Cynthia R Holmes of Malvern; a son-in-law, Whaine C. Norman of Wallingford; three granddaughters, Tara N. Holmes of Wallingford, Tiara M. Holmes of Wallingford and Miya E. Holmes of Malvern; a sister, Frances Dodson Reason of Malvern; two brothers, James E. Dodson of West Chester and Paul A. Dodson of Berwyn and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings John L. Dodson, George E. Dodson, Sr., Lena D. Bowen, Margaret J. Dodson Shepherd and Peppy Lewis Williams, Jr. Relatives and friends are invited to her Viewing on Friday evening, 7 to 9 PM at the D’Anjolell Memorial Home of Malvern/Frazer, 392 Lancaster Ave., Frazer, PA 19355 and Saturday morning, 9 to 9:45 AM.
