Kathleen Anne Kelly (known by her friends as “Kat”), 64, of Downingtown, PA passed away at home on January 12, 2023 after a short battle with lymphoma.
Thomas and Patricia Kelly welcomed their baby girl, Kathleen, into the world on August 6, 1958 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She grew up with her older brother, Kevin, and her younger brother, Michael. She was well traveled by an early age – moving around the world as her father was stationed at different locations with the Air Force. They moved from Pittsburgh to France before returning back to the US, where they lived in Florida, Delaware then finally settling back in Pennsylvania.
She grew up in Meadowbrook Manor in Exton, PA, where she made many life long friends that she still had today. She attended schools in West Chester Area School District and graduated from Henderson High in the great bicentennial year of 1976.
She worked in the office at the Entenmann’s factory for over 30 years. After that, she was employed at SAP America where she made a lot of great friends. She had fun working there, taking business trips to Europe and bringing back treats for her family.
After that, she became a Loss Prevention coordinator at Sherwin Williams. She had been employed there for the last decade and a half. She took great pride in her work and loved the people she worked with.
Outside of work, her number one hobby was her family. She was such a loving daughter, sister, mother and most recently, grandmother. She would do anything for her family and they would do anything for her. The love was boundless.
She was a of lover of all things beach. She would have stayed next to the water every day and every night if she had her way… so her ashes will find their home in various ocean locations; next to the rocks her daughter got married on in Maine, at her Jersey and Delaware beaches, and lastly, eventually, her favorite – the Caribbean.
She had a tough time medically throughout her life, but she seldom let it affect her bubbly and feisty demeanor. She was a breast cancer survivor among other ailments. She was diagnosed with lymphoma in December of 2022 and did not have to suffer through that illness for too long. There is only solace in that she can finally be pain free and at peace.
She was predeceased by her father, Thomas B. Kelly, her mother, Patricia A. Kelly, and her older brother, Kevin Kelly.
She is survived by her beloved younger brother, Michael S. Kelly (Debbie). She loved being his big sister; they were very close. She would always be the first to tell anyone: “just because his birthday is on Christmas Eve, does NOT mean you can get away with only giving him one present!” She shared a great friendship with her sister-in-law, Deb and loved her niece, Samantha Ditmer (Dalton) and nephew, David Zimmermann (Samantha).
She is also survived by her only child, Colleen Spencer (Kelly) and son-in-law, Alan Spencer. Kat and Colleen were the best of friends. Their days weren’t complete without constantly texting each other. She would do anything in the world to make sure her daughter was taken care of, and vice versa. Later in life, she happily accepted Alan as the son she never had. They had a quirky bond that Colleen loved to watch.
And lastly, the apple of her eye: her grandson, Stellan. He made her light up like a firework every time she saw him. He loved spending time with her, especially in the last few weeks. He would circle her saying, “hi, hi, hi!” and she deeply cherished his little voice. She even got to hear him say “Mommom” for the first time in her last days here.
Her family will miss and love her endlessly.
