Thomas Sciascia

Thomas Sciascia 77, of Ridley Park, PA passed away peacefully in Annapolis, MD on Wednesday, October 6, 2021. Tom was born on December 18, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA. He was the only child of Vincent and Elizabeth Sciascia who were both born in Italy. Growing up in South Philadelphia, he helped his father in the family business. Following High School Graduation, Tom served in the Army for 6 months and was honorably discharged in 1967. He was an active member of Saint Madeline’s Parish in Ridley Park. He found his career as a Butcher for Acme Markets where he worked as Meat Manager for 39 years.Tom met and married the love of his life Teresa (Terry) nee Raffaele in 1965. They have 2 daughters, Linda (Kurt) Gottzandt of Annapolis, MD and Lori (Ben) Poisker of Pitman, NJ., predeceased in 2017. Tom was a proud Grandpop of 5; Zackary, Maggie, Jesse, Gabriella, and Mackenzie. He enjoyed spending time and greeting them with love and treats.Tom’s priority was family. His infectious smile would be the center of every family gathering. He enjoyed planning the menu and even traveling back to South Phila to acquire the best ravioli, gnocchi, and cannoli for his family and friends to enjoy. Food was always plentiful. Tom was never empty handed when invited as a guest. He was a friend to everyone, always happy and would engage you in endless conversation.After retiring, Tom and Terry enjoyed spending summers in Ocean City, NJ with family and friends. Beach, watching the Phillies and old movies, reading history books and entertaining grandchildren were always on the summer agenda. Tom was the shopper of the family. He would travel miles seeking the best grocery bargains and brag how much he saved all the while stocking his basement pantry. It was the family joke that we could become rich by selling the bunker of food and paper products in the basement.Tom persevered with extraordinary courage and strength the past five years while in end stage renal failure and even during a failed kidney transplant. He was tireless in his efforts to keep life for Terry and himself as normal as possible. He would schedule his dialysis sessions very early in the morning so he could be home for his wife the rest of the day. His smile still maintained through all his health struggles.We will miss you dearly Tom, Dad, Grandpop. We know you have your hat on and are ready for an adventure with your beloved daughter Lori.Relatives and Friends are invited to his Viewing Saturday October 16th 10:00-10:45 a.m. followed by his Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am ALL IN CHURCH at St. Madeline’s Church 400 Morton Ave., Ridley Park, PA 19078. Interment S.S. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
