Emily F. SweeneySpringfield, PaEmily F. Sweeney (Kasper) was born February 16, 1929 in Wisconsin to Albert and Josephine (Schrama) Kasper. She died at home on August 7, 2019.Lee grew up on a farm in Shawano, Wisconsin as the ninth child of ten, the last a girl, died at birth. Her father came to America from Poland and was a farmer. Lee grew up in fields of corn, potatoes and beans and did lots of fishing as a youngster. Mr. Kasper played the concertina and Lee and her sister, Rainey enjoyed singing along with the music. At age thirteen, her mother died.School was one room, grades first through eighth grade with one teacher. The walk to school was long. When Lee was in seventh grade the family moved to Cicero, Illinois and Lee went to St. Dionysius School for two years. Then the family moved to Chicago, where Lee attended Farragut High School for four years. After graduation, she worked at Continental Illinois Bank as a bookkeeper. In Chicago, Lee met her future husband and they married on October 8,1949. Ed and Lee spent their sixty-seven years of marriage in the Philadelphia region. They were blessed with five children. Lee was devoted to her faith and to making the world a better place through service to others. She was an active member of St. Kevin Parish in Springfield, PA. She was a member of the St. Kevin choir since its inception. For nearly twenty-five years, she volunteered at St. Francis Country Home, feeding the Alzheimer’s patients.A lover of puzzles and games, Lee enjoyed playing Scrabble, bridge and solving the morning puzzles in the daily newspaper. She was a good neighbor and friend.Lee will be remembered for her strength of character, her generosity, her loving spirit and her great sense of humor. Her devotion and affection for her husband, Ed was remarkable. Most of all, Lee was focused on her family and being a support person to whomever needed it. Emily is survived by her sister, Dorothy (Rainey) Dworak, her five children, Susan, Edward (Nhung), Robert (Vel), Kathleen (Ronald) Caporizzo, John (Rosemary); 10 grandchildren, Teresa, Martin, Mark, Rachael, Jennifer, Matthew, Laura, Katherine, John, Eric and one great-grandchild, Ani Lee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, her parents, her three brothers, August, Stanley and Alan and five of her sisters, Gertrude, Clara, Alice, Martha and Verona.Visitation to be held at D’Anjolell Memorial Home, 2811 West Chester Pike, Broomall, PA 19008 on Tuesday, August 13 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Wednesday, August 14 from 8:30 to 9:15 AM.Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Kevin Parish, 200 West Sproul Road, Springfield, PA 19064 on Wednesday, August 14 at 10:00 AM. Interment SS. Peter and Paul CemeteryFlowers and Mass Cards would be appreciated.
