Green Horace Erwin (Mickey) Green, Sr. of Bryn Mawr, PA, formerly of Elmwood Park and the Meadows in Phila. PA, died on Wed. Nov. 27, 2013 at home. He was the husband of the late Lena H. Jackson Green, beloved companion of Gladys M. Warwick, father of the late Horace E. Green Jr. (Judy), grandfather of Horace E. Green III (Mike), Sean Green (Barbara) and Amy Green (Edward Stewart) and great-grandfather to 8. He was predeceased by his parents, Byron L. Sr. and Margaret Green; brothers, Byron Jr. (Dorothy E.) and Edward R. Sr. (Dorothy H.) and sisters; Margaret D. Yanonis (Walter) and Marion Ricci. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Theresa Jackson and Marie Phillips, many cousins, nieces and nephews and his loving “kids”, Buddy and Tammy. Mickey was proud to serve in the US Army during WWII and was a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge. He enlisted in the service in January, 1943 and served until November, 1945. During his stint in the Army, he was in 15 countries, including battles in France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Holland and Germany. Mickey trained in Camp Swift, Texas, Camp Jaffe, Arkansas and Fort Still, Oklahoma and deployed from Camp Shanks, NY to Liverpool, England. He attained the rank of sergeant. Until 1954, he worked at Baldwin’s (both before and after his service time). Mickey worked for the City of Philadelphia as the Maintenance Superintendent of the Philadelphia International Airport for 32 years, until his retirement in 1985. For many years, he worked as a butcher at Jerry’s Corner. Mickey loved to travel and had visited 38 states in American and Canada. He was an avid Phillies and Flyers fan. Mickey played semi-professional baseball and was instrumental in starting the Elmwood Park Little League. He also won many boxing matches in the army. Mickey loved nature and cared for animals all his life. The night before he passed, he fed his foxes that visited nightly and fed the birds, squirrels and deer in the backyard. Family and friends are invited to view Mickey at 9 AM on Saturday, Nov. 7 at the D’Anjolell Memorial Home of Broomall, 2811 West Chester Pike, Broomall, PA 19008. Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM, presided by Reverend Dr. James Hallam. Interment, with full military honors, will follow at Glenwood Memorial Gardens.
