Evelyn S. (nee Stonecipher) Ward, age 82, of West Chester, PA; lawyer, aviator and community service organizer, died on July 12, 2009, after a dignified battle with cancer.She was born in Indiana in 1926 to Alvin and Blanche Ritchie Stonecipher. After graduation from Lebanon Valley College, Evelyn earned her law degree from Temple University.She was the beloved wife of the late John C. Ward.In 1992, at the age of 65, Evelyn decided to take flying lessons. On the day she walked into the aviation museum, her life changed again. She met her future husband, John Ward. They resided in Hershey’s Mill and had the time of their lives, flying planes and taking small vacations. She lost her beloved partner in 2003.Evelyn is predeceased by her parents, sisters; Verna and Virginia and her first husband, Charles Gourlay.She leaves behind many friends and her beloved niece, nephews and many grand-nieces and nephews.Evelyn was intensly curious about the world, wonderfully full of fun, fiercely independent and had a love of helping others. She was Chairperson of the Goshen Towne chapter of Meals on Wheels until her illness forced her to retire in 2009.She will always be remembered for her delightful laugh, independent way of thinking and her generous heart. She will be great missed by those she leaves behind.
